What drove you to found Mission West?
Necessity. I believed in a stronger platform for my clients. Being given the opportunity to develop a client-centric, partnership-driven, risk management solutions from the ground up is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I chose to take a leap and it’s been the best decision I’ve made professionally to date.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Being able to work alongside the remarkably talented colleagues we have at Mission West.
What professional accomplishments are you most proud of?
Launching this company. Being able to leverage my years of experience in underwriting, brokering, entrepreneurship, leadership and mentoring is very rewarding. To me leadership is a choice, a choice to look after the person to the left of us and the person to the right of us.
What is your favorite book and why?
Start With Why by Simon Sinek. It’s remarkable.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
A small team, committed to a cause bigger than themselves, can achieve absolutely anything. So much of starting a business or affecting change boils down to the confidence and courage to simply try. Any great and inspiring leader or organization that ever existed set out to do something completely unrealistic.
Who do you respect most in the industry and why?
E. Richard DeRosa, my late grandfather. He was the Chairman and CEO of Mission Insurance Group, and was a huge inspiration to me. He was an icon in the workers compensation industry.
Tony McIntosh founded Mission West after successfully acquiring and peeling away the property & casualty insurance division of First Foundation Insurance Services, a division that he launched. Having come from a long family history of insurance professionals and very reputable firms such as Barney & Barney a Marsh & McLennan company, and leveraging previous entrepreneur and leadership experience, allowed for this achievement. He has built Mission West around a centralized mission to always put the client first, and his belief in raising the expectations of the insurance industry by bringing back the personal touch and transparency to the profession. He’s dynamic and experienced, with extensive and broad Workers Compensation and Property & Casualty background. As a broker, he has lead marketing placements, sales teams and has an extensive underwriting background which is very key to successful risk management. Tony is a creative problem solver with a strategic vision, and has a passion for service that prioritizes creating innovative solutions for Mission West’s growing clientele. He has been a proven, influential leader in his previous positions prior to founding Mission West.
Tony oversees all aspects of the organization. He develops guidelines for the property and casualty portfolio and works with the executive team and board of director’s to develop business strategy on how to better serve clients with insurance product lines, which includes: property and casualty, workers compensation, auto, crime, cargo, professional liability, D&O, business interruption, employment practices, rep & warranty, marine, surety, product liability, alternative risk/captives, data breach, environmental, risk management, BOP’s, employed lawyer, builder’s risk, inland marine, fidelity bonds, proprietary programs and more.
Tony was raised in Orange County and attended the University of Southern California. He also sits on the Board of Advisors for American Technologies, Inc., the nation’s largest family-owned, full-service restoration, environmental and reconstruction contractor.
